I have practiced criminal law for more than 17 years as a defense attorney and a state prosecutor. As a Prosecutor, I have served as an Assistant District Attorney, a Special Prosecutor, and a District Attorney. When I say “I have served” that does not mean I have sat behind a desk, cloaked in a title, and taken credit for the labor of others. My record is truly my record.
My experience includes having tried more than 65 jury trials, including capital murder, murder, sex offenses, drug offenses, DWI, and white collar crimes to name a few, as both a prosecutor and a defense attorney. My experience as a defense attorney has made me

a better prosecutor. I am able to evaluate a case and anticipate strategies and tactics of opposing counsel which has resulted in my 90 percent plus trial conviction rate as a prosecutor.
I have served as a lecturer at seminars involving the areas of courtroom testimony and procedure. In 2003, I received the Prosecutor of the Year Award from the Texas Chapter of the International Associations of Arson Investigators for the prosecution and investigation of the crime of arson.
In 2004, I was appointed by the Governor to serve out the unexpired term of the District Attorney of a neighboring county. While serving in this management position, I continued to personally prosecute cases while providing valuable training and guidance to younger assistant district attorneys.
My extensive background in criminal law is further complimented by my experiences as an appellate

lawyer, a special prosecutor, and part time law professor. I have written and argued appeals before the appellate courts in Houston, Texarkana, Waco, Beaumont, and Amarillo. I have successfully served as a Special Prosecutor on two separate occasions. In addition, I have taught criminal law and ethics as a part time professor at Angelina College.
My civic and professional associations include memberships in National District Attorneys Association, Texas District and County Attorneys Association, Charter Member of the Rotary Club of Washington County, Graham Masonic Lodge in Brenham, Leadership Washington County, and Life Member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
I have earned the respect of the members of the criminal defense bar, who describe me as “tough but fair”. When I am elected I will continue to be active in the community and will always be responsive to the needs and concerns of its citizens.
